Artisan Spotlight: Pais Textil

País Texil is based in Lima, Peru and was founded in 2011 by Marta Castaneda. Marta decided it was time to put her years of work collaborating directly with artisans towards the creation of her own business. País Textil’s mission is to recover ancient textile techniques using high quality materials and incorporating contemporary designs.

País Textil works with Cumpi Camayoc, a company that designs and implements social development projects in crafts and manufacturing as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility policy funded by solidary companies. All designs are produced by the artisans who have been trained by Cumpi Camayoc.

How many artisans do you employ and from what regions of Peru do you work?

We work with a group of 25 weavers from Cajamarquilla in Lima, as well as a group of 30 artisans from Cajamarca.

What product lines and materials do you offer?

We offer two lines: home décor (pillow covers, table runners, tabletop, and accent rugs) and accessories (handbags, clutch purses, and pouches). We work with native cotton, alpaca, and leather. We specialize in woven products on back strap looms, a pre-Columbian textile technique.

How would you describe your enterprise?

We are a brand seeking to work with brick and mortar retailers and retail chains.

What are your production and export capabilities?

We estimate 4 to 6 weeks in production lead-time. Larger or custom orders may take longer depending on the quantities. We currently export to the US, Canada, Switzerland, and China.

Do you offer custom capabilities?

Yes, we do. Our terms depend very much on the need of each customer and product. We usually work with their designs and we charge a fee for sample development and swatches prior to beginning production. We can also design a custom collection, which is a longer process, and charge for both design and sample development.
